Effective from January, I have started my new job as Assoc. Prof. in the Distributed and Embedded Security (DIES) research group at University of Twente in the Netherlands. Please note my new contact details.
On Friday, 4.12.2009, the Ulm Security Sparrows (USS) team participated in the 2009 edition of the "International Capture The Flag" competition (iCTF 2009). More than 800 students from all over the world grouped up in 56 teams to demonstrate their skills in practical security. On Saturday, 2 am (CET), the contest was over. This year's winner was the cInsects team from Hamburg University. We were also happy ranking 10th out of 51 which is quite an achievement considering the tough competition. As the faculty team adviser, I want to congratulate all USS members for the excellent job they did and look forward to next years iCTF. Thanks also to Giovanni Vigna and his team for organizing this excellent series of contests.
Last week, Bastian Könings received the annual CAST e.V. price for the best diploma/master thesis on security. He received the price for his thesis on the security of the PHY and MAC layer of IEEE 802.11 that I had the pleasure to supervise. You can find details on the results in our IEEE LCN 2009 publication.
Congratulations to Basti! Great Job!
As a member of the WEBIST 2010 Program Committee, I would like to draw your attention to the open Call for Papers.
Recently, I have added quite a list of papers and presentations to the respective lists. You might want to check them out, if you are interested in VANET security and privacy research.
Im Spiegelfechter Blog gibt es einen sehr interessanten Beitrag zu den aktuellen Erfolgen der Piratenpartei bei den Europawahlen.
On 6.5.2009, I finished my habilitation. Details.
Since a few days, a new chaosradio express podcast is available. In nr. 116, Tim and I discuss various aspects of ad-hoc networks (albeit in German!).
You can download the podcast and contribute on the discussion page.
Googling the web, I just stumbled upon the fact that my dissertation thesis on security in mobile ad-hoc networks is cited in the TAUCIS report ("Technikfolgenabschätzung Ubiquitäres Computing und Informationelle Selbstbestimmung") of the BMBF. It is interesting seing own work popping up here and there.
The whole report can be found here (in German).
